The following information should be included in Design Brief. Use the heading below to set up the structure of your report. You may use any word processing program that you are familiar with to produce the report. The report is written in full sentences essay style.
1. Deciding on Your Communication Objective
- Create a rough brainstorm bubble diagram of several possible target products/services that you feel are harmful to people/animals/or the environment.
- State clearly and concisely your objective for the print ad.
- Why are you creating this poster?
- What problem are you trying to address?
- How will your poster address this issue (educate, confront, emotional etc.)
- Provide some well researched facts that support your plan
- Copy the research into your report and provide source information
- Summarize your findings to provide paragraph copy text for your advertisment
- State who your target audience will be and explain why you have chosen this specific audience.
- State the format your advertisement will take (landscape, portrait, web banner etc)
- What location would best serve your advertisement
- Complete a concept one page sketch/mock up clearly outlining the elements within your ad. This concept should be done on paper and reviewed by the teacher before proceeding.
- Scan the report into a jpeg format and include it in digital submission.
5. The Visuals
- Select from several high impact visuals.
- Please present the visuals in your report and explain you choice.
- You may use visuals from the internet or take you own digital picture.
- You must manipulate the images using Photoshop or other program into a composite image.
- Include all original images in the report
- Develop several headline options for your advertisement and submit them with your design brief.
- Explain your choice for the headline
- Brainstorm and include several subheading or tags for ad.
- Explain your choice in sub heading
- Include at least two paragraphs of copy text in your advertisement. Copy text should be drawn form your research findings.
- Create a signature for your work
- A signature could include a graphic and text (MADD Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
- Less is always better than more. So if you're not certain whether something is worth including, then leave it out.
- The best way to safeguard against this is to do some rough sketches of your visual with the headline and show it around.
- Proofread your ad, then give it to others to proofread, then proofread it yet again. Typographical errors diminish your credibility and have an uncanny habit of creeping into ads when you least expect it.
